volunteers working in the kitchen garden
What we do
Ashfield is a community project. We cultivate without using chemical fertilisers in the Kitchen Garden for local consumption and provide a place for local people to come together to grow food. The Community Kitchen can be used to to cook the fruit and vegetables, to make meals for volunteers, and make jams, cakes and preservesand apple juice.
We have a number of facilities available for use for individuals, groups or small businesses including the Wood Workshop and Tractor Shed that is used for repair of small machinery.
The Training Rooms can be hired for meetings and small conferences. They are set in a tranquil environment and are fully accessible. These Training Rooms are also used for art classes, and can be used for crafts workshops, training and events.
We open every Tuesday - Friday 10.00 - 3.00
We run as a not-for- profit organisation and all income is used to help cover the cost of running the site. We also have been successful in getting funding to build the new kitchen and equip it. The Site Manager - Fliss, and Horticultural Lead - Rhian help to run the growing activities.
We also have small allotments @ £20 per year, Polytunnel space and other spaces to rent. For people interested in the idea of setting up a micro-business, find out more by visiting our facilities page. Micro-businesses hosted on site include an aquaponics growing project, the 'Local Roots' Forest School, and opening soon, a new outdoor nursery school. Plus a 'Men in Sheds' goup
